This past weekend we talked about John 3:1-8. In this passage, Jesus is approached by Nicodemus, a religious leader. The leader recognizes that Jesus is something special, and addresses him respectfully. Jesus, however, gives the man something to think about. He tells Nicodemus that he will never see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. This confuses Nicodemus.
Jesus tells him that there are two kinds of births...a "flesh" birth and a "spirit" birth. This is what is written about in 2 Corinthians. The old way of life...the old person you were...needs to be gotten rid of. The new person...the one you become when you are in Christ...is born at that time.
To make it simpler...when you accept Jesus the old you is no longer what God sees. He sees the new you. He sees a person reconnected with Himself.
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die for us. Help us to accept that sacrifice and become a new creation. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
