Looking at the Valley of the Dry Bones Part 2

The last blog left off with expectations.  There was a valley of dry bones, very dry bones, and only God knew what could be done.  Today we will continue to look at this passage from Ezekiel 37 by examining verses 4-6.

Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones and say to them, `Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!  This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.  I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.'"

God tells Ezekiel to do something.  He could have chosen to just do it Himself while Ezekiel watched in amazement.  He had something else in mind though.  He told Ezekiel the words to say.  He told Ezekiel what He was going to do.  Ezekiel was to speak and God would assemble those dead, dry bones and cover them with flesh.  God was going to breathe into them the breath of life.  Then "you will know that I am the Lord".

I think that it is amazing that God lets Ezekiel in on the process.  It reminds me of what we as musicians, singers, pastors, and the congregation can do every day.  God gives us the opportunity to praise Him.  He could just fill us to overflowing with no participation on our part.  That doesn't seem to be what God is intending though.  He asks us to speak...to sing...to actively participate at the valley of dry bones.  When we do, watch out!  The God who can assemble life from death, light from darkness, everything out of nothing...that very God can work in our lives and rebuild our dry spirits!

The passage concludes with the words "Then you will know that I am the LORD."  When God puts us back together we need to realize who He is.  When we do our part...whatever God has for us...and He revives those dry bones we need to acknowledge that He is the LORD!

My hope for you is that you will see God's direction in your life and that He will restore you in times of dryness.  When He does, thank Him!  Whether it is you, me, or those around us who are feeling like dry bones right now, let's praise Him with reckless abandon!

Heavenly Father we need You!  You are the one who brings growth and life!  Help us to hear Your directions and do our part in Your kingdom!

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen
