Sermon Notes:

Titus 2:11-15

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.  It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,  while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,  who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

WHAT A PASTOR IS TO TEACH

1. Sound doctrine.
2. Older men are to be taught to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled and sound in the faith, in love and endurance.
3. Older women are to be taught to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers, or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good, encouraging the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, and to be subject to their husbands.
4. Young men are to be taught to be self-controlled. Set an example for them by doing what is good. In your teachingshow integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so those who oppose us have nothing bad to say about us.
5. Slaves are to be taught to be subject to their masters in everything, try to please them, not to talk back to them, but to show they can be fully trusted, so that in everyway they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

Ephesians 4:11-16

So, Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

WHAT A PASTOR IS TO DO

1. Equip the saints for works of service.  All of us have a responsibility in this body.

OUR RESPONISBILTY

1. Be teachable. What the Pastor is to teach us, we are to learn.
2. Take responsibility for your part in this body.
