They Only Had One

Imagine, if you will, a place with no pollution, no crime, and no hatred.  There is no death.  Hate has never been even thought of.  The only thing there is love, truth, and an all you can eat salad bar.  That place, of course, was the Garden of Eden.

God made a perfect place where He could have communion with His creation.  There was no lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, or pride of life to come between Adam and Eve and the Creator.  There was no sin.  There were no ten commandments to break.  There was just amazing fellowship with God and mankind.
When Jesus was tempted by Satan, he used the scriptures to stand up against the tempter.  Adam and Eve didn't have that.  They had only one commandment...don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  They didn't have to learn scriptures to fit into certain temptations.  When Satan presented them with the argument to try some of the fruit, all they had to say was, "God said don't do that."

They failed.  We fail.  Humans have been failing for thousands of years.  But God was desperate to restore the communion that He once had with mankind.  He sent His son to pay the price for our transgressions. Our savior stood up to multiple temptations.  Humanity gave in to just one.  What a giving and forgiving God we serve!
1st Corinthians 10:13 says:  No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
We need to understand that God, our loving Father, does provide a way for us to overcome temptation.  While He does understand our weaknesses, He also understands the power of His Word.  When we do sin, we need to remember the message found in 1 John 2:1:  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Our God has thought of everything!
Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word!  May we always strive to avoid sin, and never cease to thank you for your forgiveness when we do sin.  Help us to love others and to show them the way to You!
In Jesus name,
Amen
