The Getaway

Luke 5:15-16 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Matthew 14:23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone

Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Mark 6:45-46 Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.

Luke 6:12-13 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles

When was the last time that you spent some time alone with God?  Our great example, Jesus, often went off by himself to pray.  His example should lead us to do the same.  We should make every effort to develop our own relationship with God.  I am not talking about bringing a shopping list of prayer requests, although God is more than willing to listen to our petitions.  I am talking about times of personal worship where you tell God how much you love Him.  I am referring to times where you listen intently to what God is speaking to you.  I am imploring you to pray through the Psalms and discover many of the attributes of our Holy Father.  In short, spend time with God and get to know Him.  You will not regret it, even if it means getting up early!

Heavenly Father,
Thank you so much for loving us.  It is amazing that You know us completely yet love us infinitely.  Help us to value the time spent getting to know You better, and give us hearts that seek and love You.  In the name of Jesus,
Amen
