Love and Worship

There has been a lot of discussion about worship.  Christians wonder about how to worship...should we do hymns or contemporary?  Should we lift our hands or not?  Should worship use instruments or should we go acapella?  Should we have three songs or five?  At least we can all agree that 4 songs is way off base(please...it is just a joke!).
When the religious leaders came to Jesus they gave him an interesting question...they wanted to know what was the greatest commandment.  Jesus replied with something that we can use when we are searching for direction, whether that is on how to worship or any other decisions that we make as a church.  The greatest commandment, according to Jesus, is “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

If you are wondering about how to worship you are probably missing the point.  If we start with the greatest commandment...loving God...then worship will be a natural result, an outpouring of our love for Him.  We should be in awe of our awesome Creator...the one who is all powerful and all knowing.  Our worship should reflect that we know who we serve and that we love Him with our whole hearts.
In short, love God with your whole heart, soul, and mind and true worship will be a natural result.
