It has been a while since I sat down at my computer. The last blog was about how David spiraled downward into more and more egregious sin as found in 2 Samuel 11-12. When David finally reached the bottom he realized a very important truth. There was nothing that he could do to fix the problem. He needed to give it over to God and beg for forgiveness and restoration. This wonderful story is found in Psalm 51. There are many great truths in this passage that we should gladly embrace in our own lives. They include:
We need to ask a merciful God to forgive us when we do wrong, and only He can cleanse us. (verses 1-2)
We are born into sin and it keeps us from being fully in tune with God. (verses 3-5)
Our sin is wiped out only by God. (verse 7)
God can renew us and use us no matter what we have done. (verses 10-13)
There is much more in this passage, but I would encourage you to read it yourself. As you read each verse I would like to ask you to pray that verse to God. Meditate on it, and let this amazing prayer of David to our amazing God help you be renewed in your faith!
Heavenly Father, thank you! Thank you for your forgiveness, restoration, and love. Our sin has created a chasm that only your love and mercy could bridge. Thank You for Your unending patience with us! In Jesus name, amen!
