Singing in the Jail

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.
These verses are found in the 16th chapter of the book of Acts.  Paul and Silas had been tossed into jail.  The reason was bogus.  Paul and Silas had every reason to question God.  They had been doing what He wanted them to do.  They weren't doing anything wrong.  They had been treated unjustly. So we can forgive them if they were quietly sulking in their prison cell.
That is not what was going on though.  They were praying and singing hymns to God.  The circumstances that they were in were unable to deter them from expressing their love for God.  Their trials were not keeping them from witnessing to people.
Are you going through tough times?  Is your world closing in like a prison cell?  Take heart from what Paul and Silas did in that situation.  Pray and sing.  Turn on the radio and listen to some songs about Jesus.  Read your bible.  Take your eyes of your surroundings and put them totally on God.  You can experience the ground shaking release that Paul and Silas experienced.
Heavenly Father, thank you for being so awesome.  When life closes in on us, remind us of how amazing You are.  We trust You to meet us, wherever we are!
