This past weekend at youth group we talked about how Jesus died for all of humanity. Then I threw cheese balls at Nathan and he didn't catch any because he didn't have his mouth open to catch them. That was kind of funny but it also helps us to realize some truths.
First of all, we have to confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord if we wish to inherit eternal life from God. This is found in Romans 10:9 . If you want to be saved you need to open your mouth and say it, just like Nathan needed to open his mouth to receive the yummy cheese balls.
Second, you have to receive the gift if you want to be saved. Nathan couldn't receive any cheese balls into his body until he accepted them by opening his mouth. You can't receive Jesus until you accept that He is Lord of all and believe that He was killed and resurrected to pay for your sins.
We have been studying for a few weeks now that we cannot meet God's standard for holiness...we miss the mark. Jesus, however, did not miss the mark. He took our punishment, what we deserved, and due to that we are once again holy in God's sight.
So...just accept it!
