April 2, 2018 I Believe

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take some teens to a conference called Believe.  There was great music that was emphasized with lasers and fog machines and dancers.  There was an awesome speaker who engaged the students on their level.  There was a shop in the back that had items that the kids couldn't get enough of.  The kids (I must confess that I as well) just ate it all up and wanted more.
Then we returned to our regular old church.  There is no fog machine...no lasers...no dancers...and the speakers are sometimes kind of, well, not as exciting as the guy at Believe.  The excitement of the weekend quickly begins to fade and we are left with only memories and trinkets from the shop.  The letdown of the return to your mundane life can be worse than never experiencing the high of an exciting and intense weekend with God.
We need a consistency of worship.  Life is not all about the big moments.  There is a song about that.  You can listen to it here.  The important thing to remember is that worship is not about all the stuff...lasers and fog machines and dancers...it is all about God.  The same God we worshipped together at Believe is present in our local church, in our car, in our schools...wherever we praise Him.  When the music and memories fade God is still there, still worthy of our adoration.  He will always be worthy of getting excited about.  Bring Him more than a weekend...bring Him your life.  It will be awesome!
Heavenly Father, you are worthy.  Forgive us when we treat You like anything less than You are.  You are the Almighty, the Alpha and the Omega, and yet we often treat you like a Sunday novelty.  Fill our hearts with excitement about You.  In Jesus name we pray, amen.
